Children are our future but today there are billions of children worldwide who are living in crisis–living below the poverty line where they have no access to daily meals, clean water, clothing, safe homes, and education. This is what every child deserves. Plan International Canada is dedicated to work for and with children, community members, and governments so children around the world can live abundantly, which is their innate rights. With gender equality as a foundational objective, Plan International Canada works to tackle the root causes of gender inequality and remove the barriers that keep children, specifically girls, from reaching their full potential. Plan International Canada focuses on the areas where girls have always “taken the backseat” when it comes to opportunities for advancement. 

In 2020, Plan International Canada has reached more than 73 million children around the globe, in over 75 countries, improving access to education, healthcare, child protection, safety during crisis, water and sanitation, economic empowerment, and youth engagement.

The world’s rainforests and oceans are called the “Lungs of the Earth.” When forests are cleared and burned, the carbon emission ends up in the atmosphere. While planting new trees is always encouraged, it takes at least 10 years before these trees are able to absorbed carbons in our atmosphere. Therefore, protecting trees in rainforests and stopping deforestation is the natural solution to climate change and improving the health of our planet. Nearly 70,000 acres of tropical rainforest are lost to deforestation every day. Accounting for up to 15% of the net global carbon emission each year, this is the same amount of carbon that every car, truck, bus, plane, ship, and train produces each year. One Tribe Global works with numerous rainforest conservation groups around the globe such as Sumatra, Amazon, Mexico, San Juan, Brazil, and more to prevent deforestation. By doing so, they are actively decreasing emissions. When we protect these forests, we are protecting all the natural habitats, endangered species, and indigenous lands within the forest.

Oceans cover 71% of the globe. They are vast, but not immune to human influence. Throughout the years, we have altered and destroyed marine ecosystems and driven million-year-old species to the brink of extinction. Only 4% of the ocean remains unaffected by human activity and malpractice. We are destroying our oceans through pollution and by overfishing. These activities threaten marine habitats, the balance of the ocean ecosystem, and human health and livelihood. Oceana is the world’s largest advocacy organization focused solely on ocean conservation. Through measurable science-based campaigns and policy creation, they are dedicated to protecting and restoring the world’s oceans on a global scale to make our oceans as rich, healthy, and abundant as they once were. Oceana works directly with government officials and policymakers all around the globe to campaign and create policies that directly save our oceans. Since 2001, Oceana has protected nearly 4 million square miles of ocean habitat. From stopping bottom trawling, protecting sea turtles from commercial fishing equipment, implementing responsible fishing practices, to ending the use of single-use plastics, Oceana has been a leader in protecting and restoring marine biodiversity and abundance.
